The points on the needles are nice and sharp, but not sharp enough to split yarn. I was surprised at the high quality of the needles since they were so inexpensive to order, but they are strong and nice and light. Recently I ordered a set of bamboo circular needles and fell in love with how easy bamboo needles are to work with.

I can see that my evening will be spent on Pinterest and Raverly looking for just the right pattern to test drive my new knitting needles. I would give these carbonized double pointed knitting needles 5 out of 5 stars for quality and price.

Right now you can get free shipping and a 10% off coupon which you can use anywhere in the store with the code KNITTING_SALE. Crochet Creation has lots of crochet and knitting supplies along with crochet and knitted garments and accessories. Check them out and let me know what you think.

I’ll post some pics later of the creations I knit up using my new needles. Until then, take care!

18 Piece Bamboo Circular 32 Inch Knitting Needle Set Review

Hello dear readers! Today I received my 18-piece Bamboo Circular Knitting Needle set from Crochet Creation. The bamboo needles are nice and smooth and come in sizes ranging from US 15 (10mm) to US 0 (2mm). I was really happy with the quality and the plastic tubes connecting the needles are securely seated, and the come in different colors so they look nice, too.

The set runs $14 USD and I got them in about 3 weeks. I can’t wait to cast on a large project and get knitting. Crochet Creations has lots of crochet and knitting supplies at great prices. They even have several items for free that I covered in my last post about the purple handled crochet hook set I ordered. You can also order some very pretty crochet and knit garments. Here is a very pretty item they have for free right now. It’s a Cotton Handmade Placemat and comes in red, black, and blue.

So I would give my new 18-piece Bamboo Circular Knitting Needle set from Crochet Creation 5 out of 5 stars. I’ll cast on a project and share some pics once I decide the perfect pattern to test the out. Check out the site and let me know what you think.

Until next time, take care!

Spiral Staircase Knit Stitch

I’ve been playing around with knitting stitch patterns and came up with this pretty lace pattern. It’s really easy to do. For this post I knitted up a square as a sample, but you could easily adapt the pattern for a scarf, cowl, lapghan, and full size afghan.

The pattern uses sets of 6 plus 3. So adjust the width of your project by the number of stitches you cast on. Just remember your total number of stitches must be able to be divided by 6, then add 3 more.

The stitches you’ll need to know are as follows:

Cast On – CO
Knit – k
Purl – p
Yarn Over – yo
Slip Slip Knit – SSK
Pass Slip Stitch Over – PSSO

The combination of SSK, PSSO is also sometimes called a double increase. Slip two stitches purlwise, knit the next stitch, and then slip both slipped stitches over the knit stitch.

I used Red Heart Super Saver in Shocking Pink and a set of US size 11 (8mm) straight needles. You can use any type of yarn and needle size, but be aware changing the yarn weight and needle size will affect the finished dimensions of your project.

The square that I knitted up is about 8 inches square.

Sets of 6 plus 3

CO 30
Row 1-3: k all sts
Row 4: k3 *yo, SSK, PSSO, yo, k3* rep to last 3 sts, k3
Row 5: k3, p to last 3 sts, k3
Row 6: k3 *k3, yo, SSK, PSSO, yo* rep to last 3 sts, k3
Row 7: k3, p to last 3 sts, k3
Repeat Rows 4-7 to desired length
Knit last 3 rows, bind off and weave in tails

I hope you enjoy this stitch pattern. As with all of my patterns, feel free to sell anything made with them. If you want to share the pattern, please share this blog post and give me credit as the designer.

I’d love to see what you’ve made with the Spiral Staircase Knit Stitch. Post some pics on Kat’s Crochet Creations Facebook page, and let me know how you like it in the comments.

Until next time, take care!

Purple Handle 8 Piece Crochet Hook Set Review

Hello all! Recently I came across a great website, Crochet Creation, that is offering crochet hook sets and other items for free, all I had to pay was shipping. Now I’m always on the lookout for a great deal, like I’m sure you are too, so I checked out what they had to offer. I found the cutest set of crochet hooks – Purple Handle 8 Piece Crochet Hook Set! And they’re purple! And they’re free! So I decided to order them and check them out.

I got my hooks in about 2 weeks and they are very nice. The first thing I noticed about them was the pretty purple plastic handles. Next when I took them out of the packaging I saw how well they were made and how balanced they are. If you’ve ever worked with an unbalanced hook, you know what a literal pain that can be. An unbalanced hook not only feels strange, but puts a strain on your hand and your wrist.

Sometimes when you buy a bargain priced hook the hook heads are rough and have burs on them. The hook heads on this set are smooth and nicely made and seated securely into the plastic handles. The heads are similar to the Boye brand, a tapered head, and that is my favorite style of hook to use. The plastic grip on the handles are just the right length and the indentation on the handle fits perfectly in my hand.

So I would give the Purple Handle 8 Piece Crochet Hook Set 5 out of 5 stars and recommend you give them a try. There is even a free set of Bamboo Crochet Hooks I’m thinking of getting. I’m also eyeing the 6 piece Multi-Color Circular Knitting Needle Set for only $14 USD along with some free Knitting Needle Protectors and Clip On Stitch Markers.

Check out Crochet Creation. They have crochet and knitting supplies along with some very pretty garments at very reasonable prices. If you order anything, let me know what you got and how you like it.

Until next time, take care and thanks for stopping by!

Free Pattern Friday!

Hello my dear readers! Today is Friday and I wanted to share my latest crochet project with you. It's a very simple basket I worked up to hold my yarn balls. I was getting tired of them rolling all over my desk and rolling across the floor. Not only that, but my cats seem to think my yarn is their personal toy stash, so I whipped up an easy solution.

I used 2 strands of Premier Home cotton/polyester yarn and a size J crochet hook. You can use any type of yarn you like, but I had a bunch of odds and ends in my stash and wanted to use them up. I like the variegated look the different colors create, but you can use one or as many colors as you like.

Odds and Ends Basket

You will need: 2 balls of yarn (or a bunch of odds and ends from your stash), a size J hook, and a tapestry needle to weave in the ends.

Notes: I used a magic ring to begin the project and an invisible join. I've included a tutorial for both techniques at the end of the pattern.

To begin hold 2 strands of yarn together and create a magic ring. Chain 1, sc 8 into the ring, close it up and slip stitch into the chain 1 to join.

Round 1: ch1, sc into the same sp, 2 sc into each st around, join

Round 2: ch1, sc into the same sp *sc into the next st, 2 sc into the next st* rep around, join

Round 3: ch1, sc into the same sp *sc into the next st 2 sts, 2 sc into the next st* rep around, join

Round 4: ch1, sc into the same sp *sc into the next st 3 sts, 2 sc into the next st* rep around, join

Round 5: ch1, sc into the same sp *sc into the next st 4 sts, 2 sc into the next st* rep around, join

Rounds 6-9: ch1, sc into each sp around, join, turn

Round 10: ch1, fpsc around each st around, join turn

Round 11: ch1, sc around, join

Repeat Round 11 until your basket is the desired height.

Decoration Detail (optional)  With 2 strands of yarn surface crochet around the posts of the last row.

How to Crochet a Magic Ring

This is a great way to begin a crochet in the round project. It makes a nice tight center with no gap.

Step 1: Wrap the yarn around your index and middle fingers.

Step 2: Insert the hook under both strands of yarn, yarn over and pull through the ring, chain 1.

Step 3: Work the appropriate number of stitches around the 2 strands of yarn.

Step 4: Pull the loose tail until the first and last stitches meet, slip stitch into the chain 1 to join.

How to Use the Invisible Join Technique

Work the correct number of stitches in the pattern, and then work 1 more stitch into the same space as the beginning chain. Join into the first crocheted stitch (the stitch directly to the left of the beginning chain). This hides the beginning chain and creates a nice tight seam which is almost invisible.

How to Surface Crochet

Step 1: Hold the yarn in the back of the fabric. Insert the hook and pull a loop through the stitches.

Step 2: Insert the yarn into the fabric and pull the yarn through the fabric.

Step 3: Pull the yarn through the loop on the hook.

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until you complete the surface crochet.

Step 4: Pull the yarn up in a long loop, remove the hook, insert it from the back to the front and pull the loop through to the back of the fabric and join into the back of the stitches.

I hope you like this pattern and have fun crocheting your own baskets to tame your stash and hold items. You can adjust the size of the basket by reducing or adding rounds to the base and sides.

With all my patterns you may feel free to sell any items you make with them as long as you give me credit as the designer. If you'd like to share this pattern, please share the link to this blog or the pattern on my Raverly page.

Please post any pics of projects you make with this pattern, I'd love to see them! Feel free to ask questions, or if you find any mistakes in the pattern. Thanks for stopping by, until next time take care and keep on hooking!
